In March, 2008, I spent a week in New Orleans. I went there as part of an Elderhostel Service program to help rebuild a home in the Lower Ninth Ward of the city, an area that had been devastated by Hurricane Katrina. I had contributed monetarily to organizations during the relief effort after the hurricane, but I always wanted to do something more tangible than that. I had high hopes for my visit and was looking forward to experiencing the city - both the devastation and the zest for life. What I came away with was far beyond anything I could have imagined. It was truly a life-changing experience. The work we did, the people we met, the culture and history we saw, the music we heard, and the food we ate. That's what this web site is all about. There is so much work to be done to restore New Orleans, and it is a jewel that must be saved and restored with care and skill.
